Hall of Fame

Dave Van Laar has dedicated more than three decades to excellence in Washington high school officiating, earning the respect of coaches, players, and fellow officials through his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the game. A certified varsity basketball official for 34 years, Dave officiated multiple postseason contests, including three WIAA State Basketball Finals, and also spent six years officiating varsity volleyball, including postseason assignments. Beyond the court, his impact has been equally significant. As the longtime Columbia Gorge Basketball Officials Association assignor, a Region 5 representative on the WOA Executive Board, and the 1B/2B State Tournament Coordinator of Officials, Dave has helped strengthen officiating across Washington while dedicating countless hours to recruiting, training, and mentoring new officials. Guided by his philosophy of “each one, teach one,” he has inspired and developed generations of officials who continue to benefit from his knowledge, encouragement, and leadership. A recipient of the WOA Official of the Year Award (2007), the Tom Cross Award (2018), and the Meritorious Service Award (2018), Dave’s legacy extends far beyond the games he has officiated. His lasting contributions to the profession and his steadfast service to the Washington Officials Association make him a truly deserving Hall of Fame inductee.
