Recognizing the professionalism and commitment officials bring to every contest.
Officials across Washington will see an increase in game fees for the 2026–27 school year as part of WOA’s and WIAA’s continued commitment to supporting the officiating profession and strengthening education-based athletics.
Officials provide far more than rule enforcement. They help ensure contests are fair, safe, and professionally administered while serving as leaders and role models for student-athletes. Behind every call are countless hours devoted to studying rules, attending training meetings, maintaining certification, traveling to assignments, and continually refining mechanics, judgment, and game management.
Across the country, officials’ organizations continue to face the challenge of recruiting and retaining qualified officials. While competitive compensation alone will not solve the nationwide shortage, it represents an important recognition of the professionalism, preparation, and commitment officials bring to every contest. The updated fee schedule reinforces the value officials provide to schools, student-athletes, and communities throughout Washington.
The revised fee schedule reflects the shared commitment of WOA and WIAA to recognizing the individuals who make education-based athletics possible. By acknowledging the expertise and dedication officials bring to every contest, Washington continues to demonstrate that quality officiating is an essential part of a positive educational experience.
